Give Yourself Permission to Pause & Adjust

Change isn't easy...especially when we don’t choose it.

March 2020 has brought us into a new reality that no one expected. We are facing change in every area of our lives, personal, professional, recreational, social…

This pandemic is a game-changer for absolutely everyone.

Have you noticed how everyone is thinking a little differently, communicating more, reassessing what is truly important and how everything has slowed down?! We will get past this crisis and we will move on, and when we do it will be interesting to see what changes and fresh ways of thinking we bring with us.

Change can leave us feeling overwhelmed and ungrounded which is not an easy place to be. How have you been reacting to everything? How have the changes affected you, your thinking, your emotional state and your stress levels?!

My work revolves around change and how people react to it. Usually there's a process involved, one we trigger ourselves, willingly. But when change happens to us, when it is not instigated by us - it can leave us feeling vulnerable, confused and well, a bit all over the place! But that's OK.

It's not entirely different to experiencing grief - life as we know it has been stripped away - and in a short period of time - so we are feeling the shock of that to begin with. Then comes a myriad of fear, anger, frustration, denial, rejection. This mix of emotions can really throw us about and with the added pressures of having to stay home with kids or family, we are in serious adjustment mode.

But then, a sense of acceptance begins to set in when healing can begin and we can adopt a positive, resourceful mindset in the face of uncertainty.

Allow yourself to adjust – feed your soul!

So please, go easy on yourself. Give yourself permission to take some time to adjust and to pause. What is it that grounds you? What feeds your mind and soul? I went for a walk today and it was exactly what I needed - nature, space, air...

I felt myself literally coming back to earth...

And then I was able to feel more inspired and resourceful about rolling up my sleeves and getting on with things. I hadn't felt that way since our world turned upside down! I started to think about my skillset and what I have to offer, how I might be useful to others? How can I adapt - at home, with my family, with the kids and in my business.

What skills do you have that would be useful right now?

How can you be creative and resourceful with what you're already doing?

How can you jump over or break through the obstacles you're facing?

How can you reframe your skillset, your offering and contribution?

How can you move your working life online for a while?

Can you stay connected socially while physically distancing yourself?

We have seen such resourcefulness already – from the residents of city streets coming out together to do some exercise to art challenges and P.E. classes for kids on youtube to charity gigs on FB to groups of friends hosting pub quizzes online.

I am here to support you if you're feeling overwhelmed or need to figure out how to move your work home or find yourself completely unsure of the future and you have no clue how to start planning ahead...
